About Attorney Richard E. Walden

Education

Attorney Richard Walden obtained his B.A. from Texas Christian University at the age of 19, graduating both cum laude and with Departmental Honors in Political Science in 2-1/2 years.  Richard received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.  During law school, Richard was a finalist in both moot court and mock trial competitions.

Experience

Richard Walden relocated to Los Angeles and was admitted to practice law in California in 1983.  Richard was an associate at Nicholas & Cairns before becoming an associate and then partner at Saphier, Rein & Walden.  In 2008, Richard became a partner in Burris, Schoenberg & Walden, LLP, and in 2018 became a partner in Hymes, Schreiber & Walden, LLP. His practice includes contract, real estate, business transactions and litigation, as well as sports law.

Expertise

Richard Walden is the co-author of the college textbook Sport, Ethics and Leadership (Routledge, 2018).  He taught Contemporary Issues in Business and Management for Pepperdine University’s Graziadio Graduate School of Business, and taught Sports Law for the University of San Francisco Master’s Program in Sport Management for twenty years.  He has also guest lectured on sports law, ethics and leadership at a number of colleges and universities.  He was featured in the August 2018 issue of Compliance and Ethics Professional, the journal of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics.  He has served as a member of the California State Bar Committee on the History of Law in California, and as a Mock Trial Judge and Coach for the Constitutional Rights Foundation.  In 2023, the University of San Francisco Master's Program in Sport's Management announced that it would create a scholarship in this name.
